CONTEXT: The Diversity Committee has been charged with improving staff/faculty relations as part of the “Faculty/Staff Working Environment Project” in the College of Arts and Sciences. Drawing on the general CAS survey, the departmental report by Tim Hicks, and the materials developed by Diversity Committee member Kathy Furrer, the committee discussed how best to initially proceed with areas of concern. Along with the wider conversation on staff/faculty relations at the departmental meeting in January 2021, the committee would like to propose the following “Communication Protocols” not only for communications between faculty and staff but between all members of the English department.
