Policy Statement

Deans will recuse themselves from the following personnel matters in their tenure home departments and will be replaced by another dean:

  • Promotion and tenure cases
  • Department head selection

In all other routine personnel actions (such as post-tenure and midterm reviews), deans will consult with at least one other CAS dean before making a decision. In non-routine personnel-related situations (such as grievances and mediation), the CAS Dean’s Office will determine if there is a substantial conflict of interest, and if so, assign oversight to another dean. Deans may also choose to recuse themselves from any situation they believe presents a conflict of interest.
