The 2015-18 United Academics CBA (Article 16, Section 1) requires that bargaining unit, non-funding contingent career NTTF be notified by May 1 of the University's intent to renew or not renew their contract for the following academic year. This is a separate process from the Request to Offer and contract.
If a career faculty member is not notified by May 1 of the intent to renew/not renew the contract, the faculty member is eligible to "receive a payment proportional to his or her base salary for the number of days the notice was late" (Article 16, section 5a).
For more information on each of these processes, please see the Office of the Provost website.
Notification of renewal is the responsibility of CAS units. Again, for now, this is a separate process from the Request to Offer and contract.
Use the "NTTF Renewal" email template provided by Human Resources. This template is available at the HR - Templates/Forms link to the right under External Links.
Notification of non-renewal is generally done by the Dean's Office. If you have career NTTF non-renewals, please notify and work with your Divisional Dean, at least one month prior to the contract end date, to ensure the non-renewal notification is provided in a timely manner. You will be required to also work with the Office of the Provost or VPRI.
Funding Contingent Notifications
Notification of renewal or non-renewal of a funding contingent career NTTF appointment should be provided "as soon as practicable" (Article 16, section 1b). The guidelines above for non-renewal notifications apply to non-renewals of funding contingent career NTTF, including that the notification will be sent by the Dean's Office.
